I use “ewido” you can download a trial version for 10 days. That will be enough time to get rid of any bugs. It will take care of malware.

In addition ad-aware personal edition is also free. It will remove any malicious cookies and stuff.

I run free AVG as a virus check.

A free version of Zone Labs as a fire wall. All of these together does the job for me.

After downloading these programs. Immediately update them. Once that is done reboot your comp. in “safe” mode. This can be done by holding down the “F8″ key upon start up. Once you are in safe mode run all of the above programs. This should do the trick.

If your comp. is still running slow. Run msconfig in you Start/run menu. There you can see what is actually running on your computer. A word of caution though. Do a search on the net first to learn how to properly run “msconfig”, because you have the potential of doing some damage with it. Good luck.

There are two great spyware removal programs that are free. Ad-Aware and Spybot Search and Destroy. You should download and run both, as you may have spyware programs that one or the other won’t catch. Don’t waste your time with microsofts beta spyware program, go straight to these two.
