A really good thing about Spybot is that you can immunize your computer against known threats just be sure to update it after you download it and select the immunize function. Adaware2007 is good too,

I use Spybot and Ad-Aware as well as virgins own PC spyware protector.

If you are just referring to spyware only and not virus like trojans, then i would recommend Windows defender, provided if your computer is operating on genuine windows. Just visit the microsoft website and search for windows defender. Download the lastest version and install. Note that it is free to use and the publisher is microsoft itself

I use both SPYBOT and ADAWARE…..both free and both work well. They actually complement each other so use both.
