For spyware/malware there is no one program that is best, as none are 100% effective…. whether they are free or pay, makes no difference, none are totally complete at finding or removing spyware just because of the different ways each program works at protecting your computer………. you have to use a combination of programs…….. You can go to, and in the anti spyware column you can have a choice of up to 10 different programs…… You need a combination of blockers and active checkers….

top recommended blocker is SpywareBlaster, currently blocking over 10, 500 bad guys or sites……… HOSTS file would be an additonal good blocker….

for manual checking you can use SuperAntiSpyware and perhaps AVG Antispyware, or Spybot S&D…. Windows Defender misses a lot and seemsto be a resource users/hog………

BOClean is a superb monitor that runs in the background. A newer program is ThreatFire, but it seems to have problems if you use AVG anti virus programs (which are not very good anyway because of false positives and missed viruses).

I like AVG 8. This version is both anti-virus and anti-spyware in one application. It’s fast, efficient, effective, and completely free.
I recommend selecting custom options when installing and de-selecting the link scanner feature. It’s nice feature and works very well but can slow computers down when performing a web search, especially if you have 50 or more results per page. Plus, if you use something other than I.E. to browse the web you don’t need to worry about it very much. It also is not compatible with Firefox 3. - top download.

AVG is brilliant

i had norton internet security 2007 and upgraded it to 2008 (an offer was sent to me) i got a trojan on my computer which norton didn’t stop, detect or get rid of my subscription was coming to an end so i uninstalled norton and installed AVGs free version and it found the trojan straight away and got rid of it

another one to use is Avast or Avira but i personally recommend AVG
