Why do people create computer viruses and spyware? Do they get paid to do so?
BIG_aXXo_FAN asked:
I understand that spyware collects demographic information about your browsing habbits, but why do people create actual viruses that destroy your computer? It’s no good to them if you don’t use it right?

That’s like asking why people vandalize. It’s a form of terror. Someone hates society, so they pay them back.

Some people just enjoy making viruses.
Or they get paid.
Or they are getting serious revenge.

I believe that Anti-virus companies pay people to “make” viruses, but that is just my opinion. But think about it, they are the ones gettin rich from the whole thing, so why wouldnt they. If there were no more viruses, they would go out of business, and lose millions if not billions of dollars.

People do thhese things to have fun. They want to create havoc on other people. They either have some kind of beef with someone, some company, some country or whatever, just want to be mischevious, or just don’t care at all.
Also this notion of anti-viruses making them to up their sales is ridiculous. Not all anti-virus companies are in it for the money. There are some great and free programs out there.

It’s all about making money. And controling your computer for the attackers own use. Google “botnet”.
Perhaps Eugene Kaspersky, founder of anti-virus maker Kaspersky Labs said it best, ” It’s a different world today. 10 years ago, we were fighting against smart kids who hacked as a hobby. Now, we’re dealing with criminal gangs that control your computer to make money. Different world, different protections.”

People do this to wreak havoc, some companies do this go get business, stupid people who has nothing else to do in their spare time, people with no life or purpose to help others, people going to hell maybe, and just plainly for the enjoyment of seeing others suffer. ^_^

Some people get paid to use spyware to get your browsing habits, yes. But there are people out there who do stupid things for fun. Some people just make those things to get at a friend, and then realizes how fun it is and puts it on the web. Some people put viruses and spyware on the web to get people to stop stealing music and pirating videos, etc.

It’s sometimes a pleasure for some software genius to develop such programs that hampers your system and see people react to such nuisance. Besides some antivirus software developers themselves create such softwares to sell out their curative softwares in the market.

to give u a small information.the first virus in the world was made by a computer programming engineer and the company didn’t know that.then he also made the antivirus and sold it for a high price but unfortunately he was imprisoned because they found the virus files on his computer and discovered how he made it
